Regrettably RTE have been screening Home and Away in the afternoons but not in the evenings so far this world cup. However tonight is the last night when the evening episode won't be on. From tomorrow the evening episodes return.
Unfortunately for those who missed it Flynn passed away last week.
Bandage's poem from aboveFlynn: A gent from the moment you arrived in the bay,
Always pleasant in manner with a laid back way,
A counsellor by trade and long blond hair though a guy,
You changed overnight with nobody blinking an eye,
Short and stocky - Doctor Saunders you became,
Fell in love with young Sally and she then took your name,
A wonderful marriage with the love of your life,
Sally Fletcher was all you ever wanted in a wife,
Soon little Pippa arrived on the scene,
You and Sal happier than you'd ever been,
Ric and Cassie there too - things were complete,
But the curse of cancer came for your organs to eat,
We knew time was scarce and you soon would die,
But shocked we all were as the cables made you fry,
What a tragic end - I felt the pain deep inside,
The night of the mini-cyclone when Doctor Flynn Saunders died.
Script from Flynn's final episodeSUMMER BAY HOUSE
The time is 5:53pm. FLYNN lies in his bed. SALLY, LEAH, ALF, CASSIE and RIC are sitting at the table.
SALLY
There’s not much more I can tell you. Dr. Matthews was absolutely certain. He’s only got a few hours left.
CASSIE
What? No?
SALLY
He’s not in any pain, but the force has taken away the energy he needed to keep going.
CASSIE
No, it can’t be true. It’s too soon. No, Ric, there must be something we can do. Can’t you ask Dr. Matthews again?
ALF
You heard what he said Cass.
CASSIE
Well I don’t care. The doctor doesn’t know. Flynn can’t go yet. We haven’t had enough time.
ALF
Look, you knew this was coming. It’s OK to get emotional. You have to do this in the right way, for Flynn.
CASSIE
I’m sorry.
LEAH
It’s OK.
CASSIE
I just love him so much. The thought of saying goodbye. I know.
LEAH cuddles CASSIE. FLYNN is lying in his bed.
ALF
Sal.
SALLY
Sorry.
ALF
Do you need anything? Do you want us to stay or to go?
SALLY
Stay. He needs me.
SALLY walks out and stops at the bottom of the stairs. FLYNN is lying in his bed. SALLY walks in. She lies on the bed and they cuddle.
CASSIE
It’s all just happened so fast.
RIC, CASSIE, LEAH and ALF are sitting at the table.
CASSIE
He was supposed to have more time.
LEAH
Sometimes it’s impossible to know.
CASSIE
But his, doctors, it’s their job to know.
LEAH
But something’s are out of control. I think we need to believe there’s a bigger plan in all of this.
CASSIE
A plan? What sort of plan would hurt him and take him away from us?
RIC stands up and starts walking out.
CASSIE
Where are you going?
RIC
Out.
ALF
Mate, hang on a tick.
RIC
I just need a bit of space.
CASSIE gets up to follow him.
ALF
Cass, let him go love.
CASSIE
But he’s.
ALF
Just let him deal with this in his own way for now, OK. He’ll be back.
SALLY and FLYNN are lying in the bed.
FLYNN
I need to speak with the kids. Please.
ALF, CASSIE and LEAH, who is holding PIPPA are downstairs. RIC walks in.
CASSIE
Are you OK?
RIC
Cass.
CASSIE
Sorry. I was worried about you.
RIC
Well don’t be worried.
SALLY walks in.
ALF
How is he?
SALLY
He’s OK. Now, he’d like to see you guys, so who wants to go up first?
RIC sits down.
SALLY
Cassie.
CASSIE walks upstairs and into FLYNN’S room.
FLYNN
Hi.
CASSIE
Hi.
CASSIE starts crying.
FLYNN
How did you do that?
CASSIE
What?
FLYNN
How did trick Ric into going skinny dipping with you and then get away with stealing all his clothes. He has never told me the whole story. You know, that’s first time I heard of you. You were the girl who got Ric naked.
CASSIE starts laughing.
CASSIE
Aw, you know Ric. He’s pretty gullible. It wasn’t that hard.
FLYNN
You know what’s even more incredible, you made him look like such an idiot, but he could not stop talking about this amazing girl he had met. You know what’s more incredible, the way you always smile, the way you’re always happy. You’re always caring. You know, if my little Pippa grows up to be half of the woman you are, I’ll be very, very proud. I love you Cassie.
CASSIE
I love you too.
CASSIE and FLYNN cuddle. The time is now 11:06pm. SALLY, PIPPA, ALF, LEAH and CASSIE sit at the table.
CASSIE
I don’t know how he can be so calm. He was amazing. I didn’t think I could do it, but he made it kind of beautiful.
RIC is sitting in the kitchen.
SALLY
Ric, do you want to go up there now?
RIC
No, thanks.
SALLY
I know this.
RIC
I’m not going up there.
CASSIE
Ric, it’s not that bad. I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but you’ll be OK. I was.
RIC
Yeah, well, good on you. I said I’m not going up there.
ALF walks into the kitchen.
ALF
You want to be pretty sure about that mate. You’re not going to get another chance.
SALLY stands up.
ALF
Sal, do you mind if I have a quick word.
SALLY
Of course not.
ALF walks upstairs. RIC continues eating dinner.
ALF
G’day mate.
FLYNN
I’ve got to say, if I thought everybody would have come and see me while I was lying around I would have got sicker a lot sooner.
ALF
So that’s what all of this is about. Just bunging it on to get a bit of sympathy.
FLYNN
Yeah. Do you mind getting me a coldie?
ALF
Righto, now that we’ve got all that out of the way, how do you really feel?
FLYNN
I feel tired, it’s like there’s not a lot left, but I wouldn’t have got this far without you.
ALF
It’s nothing to do with me mate.
FLYNN
I don’t think you know the difference you’ve made to Sally over the past couple of months.
ALF
I couldn’t have stayed away if I wanted to. I’ve known that girl for eighteen years, can you believe it, and I tell you something, I’ve never, ever seen as happy as she’s been since she met you.
FLYNN
I do hope so.
ALF
I know so. Sal loves you to death mate. There’s no tomorrow.
ALF and FLYNN start crying.
FLYNN
You know they say you’re a lucky man if you end up with a handful of friends. I feel really lucky mate. You’ve been a big part of that handful.
ALF
I’ll look after them for you mate, no matter what.
ALF walks downstairs. RIC is playing a computer game. CASSIE is in the kitchen.
CASSIE
Are you really not going up there?
RIC
What does it look like?
CASSIE
Why are you being like this?
RIC
Because you won’t leave me alone.
CASSIE
Well maybe that’s because you’re being selfish.
RIC
Well maybe that’s because you’re being a pushy cow.
CASSIE walks out.
RIC
What?
ALF
What do you think you’re doing?
RIC
Nothing.
ALF
I can see that. Why aren’t you going up there?
RIC
I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t have to talk about it. He gave us the choice.
ALF
It’s all right to be scared mate and fair enough too. It’s probably the hardest conversation you’re going to have in your life, but the thing is, it’s not about you, it’s about Flynn. Are you really going to turn him down?
FLYNN, SALLY and PIPPA are on the bed. RIC walks in.
RIC
Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll come back.
FLYNN
It’s OK. I think it’s time Pippa went to bed.
SALLY
OK. Hey, it’s time for you to give a daddy a big kiss goodnight.
FLYNN
Night sweetheart.
SALLY
Give daddy a kiss.
FLYNN
I love you very much. Daddy, will always love you. Beddy byes.
SALLY and PIPPA walk out. RIC walks in and shuts the door.
FLYNN
I thought there was something’s you could put off until tomorrow.
RIC
I was going to come up. I just had.
FLYNN
I knew you’d be last mate.
RIC
How?
FLYNN
It’s a bit scary sometimes. When I was your age I was, I was spitting my mouth off and getting into trouble. My parents used to rip their hair out.
RIC
Yeah, I am sorry. I’ve been trying to pull back a bit.
FLYNN
Don’t worry. Try to say, that I’m not worried about you. I turned that on you know. I know you’ve got to find things out for yourself and I know how smart you are, but sometimes you get angry. It’s only because you care. You have so much love of your own Ric. I am sure that you are going to do great things. My father used to say to me, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I always thought it was a bit of saying, but when you came to the house it sort of hit me. Life is really fully of visits. Sometimes you’re going to be disappointed, sometimes you’re going to get more than you ever, ever imagined. I mean, look at me, I didn’t just get a son, I got a best friend.
RIC
I love you dad.
RIC starts crying. The time is 3:54 am. SALLY and FLYNN are on the bed.
SALLY
Nobody should have to go through this. It’s bad enough that I wore that wig in the first place. I can’t believe you’re making me relive it.
FLYNN
That weekend Sally.
SALLY turns to photos of her wedding.
SALLY
Aw, that’s better.
FLYNN
Is that all we’ve got to say. You look amazing.
SALLY
Now you’re just lying.
FLYNN
What are you talking about? You just look perfect. Look at you.
SALLY
What are you talking about? I jumped off a runaway horse drawn carriage. I was traipsing through the bush. I was anything but perfect.
FLYNN
It was good being with you.
SALLY
They were good days.
FLYNN
Sally.
SALLY starts crying.
SALLY
I’m so sorry. I don’t want to do this. It’s just, it’s just so many things that I want to say. Just so much I wanted to tell you and I have no idea how.
FLYNN
You don’t have to say anything. I know. You know what I’d like?
SALLY
What?
FLYNN
I’d like our song. Do you know where it is?
SALLY
I might be able to find it.
SALLY puts the CD on.
FLYNN
That’s it. That’s the song that got us into all this.
SALLY
Excuse me. I think we started long before we ever heard this song. As I remember it, Shauna had her eyes on you, but you couldn’t take your eyes off me.
FLYNN
Is that how you remember it?
SALLY
Mmm, you were completely overcome.
FLYNN
For somebody who wouldn’t give me a second look you were very sure of yourself there.
SALLY
That’s not what I saw.
FLYNN
Come and dance with me? Come on. Just have a little dance.
SALLY
I don’t think it’s a good idea.
FLYNN
I think it’s a perfect idea.
SALLY helps FLYNN up and they dance. SALLY and FLYNN are now lying in the bed.
SALLY
I’ve got a confession to make.
FLYNN
Tell me.
SALLY
I lied before, about the way I remember things.
FLYNN
Yes.
SALLY
I wanted you to think I hadn’t given you a second look. I knew who you were the moment I saw you. Beautiful, kind eyes and that smile. You were my future. I was just too scared to say it. I’m not scared anymore Flynn. You’ve made me so strong. I’m completely in love with you. I always will be. You know that now.
RIC, ALF and CASSIE are downstairs. They all look upstairs.
SALLY
I’m so sorry I didn’t own up sooner. I hope you’ll be able to forgive me. Flynn. Flynn.
SALLY strokes FLYNN’S face. He has died.
