I don't know who I think will win it this year at this stage. Everyone I had any interest in - other than Mayo - has either injured themselves or didn't start. I don't know anything about Honchar but he seems to have had a cracking timetrial. I think that's his specialty though so he's probably a shit climber.
Kloden is still there isn't he? He outperformed Ullrich for T Mobile a couple of years back (finished second). No idea what his form is like but he's up there overall. Good all-rounder.

Typical.
14:51 (CET) - Mayo Feeble... He has been dropped by the peloton early on the first major pass of the 2006 Tour. Not even his team-mate Etxebarria sees the point in waiting for him...

The peloton continues to be led by the T-Mobile team which is 9’03" behind Mercado and Dessel. The riders in the yellow jersey’s group include: Five or six T-Mobile team-mates, Landis, Leipheimer, Hincapie, Moreau, Evans, Sastre, Zubeldia... and most of the overall favourites with the exception of Mayo who is being pushed by team-mates at the back of the peloton.

Have really enjoyed what I've seen of the first week and a half of the Tour, some cracking sprint finishes. I know the Tour is really about the mountains, but the sprints showcase a different talent, and McEwen really is class in them at the moment. Even that stage that Freire won, Robbie came from absolutely nowhere to within a quarter of a wheel. Funniest thing is that a lot of his success this time seems to be due to the Quickstep team reeling in any breaks, for the benefit of their World Champion Tom Boonen, and yet Boonen invariably messes it up at the crucial moment. Every single time.
As for the general classification, I see Mayo finished 24 mins back today, and 17 mins back from the other leading contenders. Kloden as mentioned earlier is the favourite, followed by Landis, Evans and Menchov.

Today's stage At the moment there are 4 riders out in front near the start of the first summit The move was started by De la Fuente (SDV). He was joined by Camano (EUS) and later by Wegmann (GST) and Flecha (RAB). Mayo (Eus) has already been dropped by the peloton and apparently he's on the verge of quitting the tour. He's the leader of Euskatel but Camano in this stage and Landaluze yesterday look like better hopes for the team.

Hincapie, Azevedo and Popovych are the only riders from the Discovery Channel team still in the yellow jersey’s peloton. The rest of the team have been dropped. Bad news for Hincapie.

That seems incredible that one of the climbing specialists and race favourites could lose 14 mins on the first mountain stage and then be completely dropped on the 1st climb of the next mountain stage. There must be an illness, injury or dare I say, drug related issue - by that I mean maybe he's drug free and this is more a true showing of his ability? Basso supporters please respond.

Are you getting Basso and Mayo mixed up bandage? Piepiper any news on whether Mayo actually dropped out in the end or not? Are the front 4 still together as one group? Much support for Camano on the road?

Yeah I am. Is Mayo a climber or what? Should he be performing this poorly?

Mayo is a specialist climber and the Pyrenees is his home territory. The Euskaltel team are Basques and they do everything to try and win a stage in the Pyrenees because that's their home turf. Mayo is team leader and about 3/4 years back he was awesome because he used to attack on every mountain stage - very exciting. He won a stage in the Alps and finished 5th or something. 2 years ago he was in cracking form coming into the race but came nowhere - last year he did nothing. This year he was in great form again but he's being dropped in the mountains.

When you say there are two basques I presume only one of them is Euskaltel. Mayo must be injured or sick or something.

no there were two basques form euskatel. camano from euskatel has just been dropped and voeckler about to catch him. i stuck a few bob on rasmussen for today's stage. they are on a very steep climb now and some of the riders are badly suffering

Is it not Camano, De La Fuente, Flecha and Wegmann who were on the break? I thought only Camano was a Euskaltel rider out of that grop?

Camano and Voeckler have been caught by the peloton - they seem to be motoring now. Rasmussen might not be a bad bet if they can keep this pace up. What odds was he?

Are you sure that your bet was for today's stage and not overall? I thought paddy power offered betting on the overall gc but not on individual stages.

I thought paddy power offered betting on the overall gc but not on individual stages. positive. they had nothing up on site until i emailed them and then they put odds for this stage up. interestingly their odds across the board almost without exception are much better than ladbrokes. here they are.Stage 11 (Tarbes - Val d'Aran) - BIR Stage Betting - BIR Bet now Quick bet M Rasmussen 9 - 4 A Kloden 6 - 1 * D de la Fuente 6 - 1 * C Evans 14 - 1 * C Moreau 14 - 1 * D Menchov 14 - 1 * F Landis 14 - 1 * C Sastre 16 - 1 * J Rujano 18 - 1 * Ja Gomez Marchante 22 - 1 * B G Hincapie 22 - 1 * Bet O Pereiro Sio 25 - 1 * Bet

They are decent odds. I was looking at ladbrokes the other day and their prices were dreadful. 11/1 on Mayo to win a stage and each way pays out on top 3. There's a couple of hundred people in this race for Christ's sake it's not a horse race.
Was that 14/1 on de la Fuente a bet-in-running?
