the munster game showed leinster up to be the spineless set of overpaid underachievers that they are. o'driscoll must be dethroned as captain of our country, following that heartless display and his inability to motivate or make crucial tactical changes in the heat of battle it has dimished his standing amongst the fans but more importantly in his fellow irish team mates, in particular the munster ones. don't get me wrong, on the pitch he leads by example by throwing himself at everything and never giving up, but that doesn't cut it for me. Martin Johnson led by example in his play but he was also highly regarded for his tactical brain and ability to say the right thing at the right time to motivate players. paul o'connell anyone

O'Connell did a good enough job when Driscoll was injured 2 seasons ago.
Driscoll's game has suffered a bit with the burden of captaincy. He also seems to run to the ref a lot whining about decisions. A good captain should have a quiet word with the ref not run whining to him.
Easterbunny? but he's not really guaranteed his place with the competition for the back row.
Foley? Ditto and doesn't have a place in squad at the moment.
Murphy? too far away at full-back
Horgan? no experience
Darcy? no experience
The only 6 players guaranteed spots are BOD, POC, ROG, GD, GM & Sh. So its between BOD and POC realistically

It would be harsh to strip BOD of captaincy but I would question the decision to make him captain in the first place. Seems kinda like Beckham being England captain - oh he's our most high-profile player so give him the arm-band. Certainly POC is a more natural leader and would be better as captain but would a switch in captaincy damage BOD (and the Leinster players) morale? I thought BOD's lack of leadership qualities were highlighted when he seemed to berate Contepomi after he had that little scuffle during the semi-final. What he needed was an arm round the shoulder and a bit of encouragement I reckon.

I don't think I would take the captaincy away from him. There is only really one obvious replacement as discussed and as O Connell is pack leader he has the responsibility for motivating and organising the forwards anyway. I don't think Leinster's game suffered at all from having BOD at captain. If guys aren't honest enough to put it all in then they don't deserve encouragement. O Connell might coax the odd game out of them but inevitably when it's put up to guys like O Kelly (i.e. last weekend) they just disappear anyway.
