Does anyone know what the jazz is with getting satellite TV into rented accomodation? Most landlords generally don't allow the satellite dishes to go up. Ideally I want Sky Sports for the Ashes and I wouldn't mind the ntl package that offers Setanta and Celtic TV too. Getting fed up of Setanta Sports Ireland showing delayed coverage of Celtic (even Old Firm) games to show grand fooking prixs. Is there any other way of getting these stations? Does the fact that we have ntl broadband in the house mean we're restricted to getting an ntl package? Any help appreciated.

Last place I was in, forbade it, strictly and actually took down satellite dishes after repeated warnings!
NTL Digital, which i have now, is very good, have the sky sports package. no complaints with the NTL service at all.
Film 4 is free now and it comes on the NTL package

I too have NTL digital. You can get sky sports through NTL and it costs the same as it would if you had it directly from Sky. NTL gives you the added advantage of Setanta Ireland for free plus Channel 4 which is not on Sky.
The Setanta package is 12/15 euro a month I think which gives Celtic tv, Hun tv, Chelski tv, Racing UK and Setanta Sports 1 and Setanta Sports 2. The latter channels show SPL, Bundesliga, Erdevise (Dutch), Le Championnat and Serie A I think. They're also building up rights to other events.
I used to have Sky Sports package but I cancelled it when I got the Setanta Sports pack because I wasn't really watching it anymore. It's certainly useless during the summer.

So am I correct in stating that through the ntl digital pack, i.e. without having to get a satellite dish, you can get a setanta package and/or a sky sports package? And both cost roughly €30 per month? And can be done by giving them a call or having to wait for some clown to call around and install it?

If you're getting NTL digital and you haven't had digital before then it requires a call - you need to get a digibox from them for a start. Whether this gentleman turns out to be a clown or not is a matter for the gods.
You can get NTL digital without any sports or get Setanta and/or Sky Sports. It costs 10 euro a month extra just to be digitalised - probably worth it for the extra channels like More 4, BBC 4, Fashion TV etc.
Sky Sports is a further 23 euro a month.
Setanta is roughly half that.

So am I correct in saying that I'd have to sit in and wait for some guy to come in to install the digibox? €10 extra per month for the basic package, another €12 for the Setanta one which includes Celtic TV and another €23 for the Sky Sports one, So that an extra monthly cost of approximately €50, which between a few people is nothing. Especially when you consider the amount of money spent on pints down the pub watching football that may potentially be avoided.

Correct. The install doesn't take long though: it's not like a satellite dish install which can take a couple of hours I think. Also I forgot to mention the fact that you get NASN free with that Celtic TV package which isn't a bad watch from time to time. Corleone will be upset I'd imagine.

i think you have to pay for basic ntl too. i dont mean the basic digital ntl, i mean that you have to get the cable installed that gives you the usual non digital channels (ie bbc, utv, sky one, mtv etc), which is a waste because you get them on the digital then. So i pay some thing like
Basic ntl cable X Basic digital X Movies X Sports X
I think that you think you can just get the latter three (with setanta etc). no so i think
It costs about twenty a month, does the basic cable
And another point, i dont find them helpful AT ALL when you have a problem, they dont want to know you. They can be quite annoying sometimes with phoning you about their new deals. I would research Corus (altough i think they install a dish).

The info from whyohwhy and the boys all sounds correct. Nevermind the Sky dish too much hassle with the landlord and won't save you anything, get ntl digipack. I don't know if you're living in an apartment but if you are the management company rules quite likely prohibit erecting satellite dishes (and washing lines, and Wexian tenants ha ha). Yes ntl are notoriously difficult to deal with though, to get a job in customer service there you need to have failed entrance exams with Ryanair and Argos. Just realised why am I giving you advise. ntl and sky will rob you blind, watch everything in the 51 bar where our outstanding staff will pour you the greatest pints of Heinekn ever - tastes like an angel pissing on your lips

Bandage, we got NTL in our place and it was relatively effortless, got a call from the guys to say he was on his way so headed off from work and it too about 25mins for him to do, we did have a terrible experience with them before getting it into my egg yolks place however. combined with a mullet, a yute and a wife-beater, tis a must have for november when the ashes arrives imho.
