Ridiculous interview with Nickey Brennan on the GAA Show on Setanta last night attempting to defend the inadequate disciplinary system. He tried to explain the shocking delay and treatment handed out to Paddy Campbell by saying that the CAC sat down to view Enda Muldoon’s appeal a couple of weeks after his incident with Campbell. At that meeting it was seen by the committee that Campbell had provoked Muldoon but that Muldoon still deserved a red for striking out. Anyway, having viewed the tape the CAC decided that Campbell had a case to answer but for some reason in the rule book Brennan said the committee members had ‘compromised themselves’ as they had already watched it for the puposes of deciding on the Muldoon appeal.
Here it gets totally ridiculous. The CAC then decided that as 3 members were unable to attend the meeting for personal reasons they were not compromised and could review the Campbell incident in isolation. However, 1 of these members was hospitalised for 2 weeks leaving only 2 members available to view the tape. Lo and behold the quorum for a CAC meeting is 3 members so they had to wait another 2 ½ weeks to suspend Campbell (very convenient as this timeframe ties in with the Matty Forde case) meaning he was suspended 4 weeks after the incident and has missed the Fermanagh game already and will miss the Cork game on Saturday. That is so unprofessional it defies belief. Surely they should have some provisions in place to review the cases in a speedy manner. It’s too easy to say it’s because ‘poor auld Seámus was up in hospital there in Monaghan and couldn’t make the meeting’ or whatever. It’s not good enough and it’s not fair. There were more absolutely amateur assertions aswell that I’ll come back to. I feel sorry for the players with these imbeciles administering their sport.
