Any of you boys into boxing? Did anyone see "the great" Arturo Gatti get beaten in Atlantic City two weeks ago? And the reprucussions that result on Ricky Hattons career moves? Any fans of the Mexican greats Morales or Barreira here? Anyone else annoyed that Naseem Hamed had serious talent but got destroyed when he fought a real boxer who trained properly (Barreira)? anyone else agree with me that our current Irish great hope doesn't stand a chance of competing at the highest level? Bernard Dunne by the way, not bandage or cully... Any thoughts atall about boxing just let it out!
P.S. Mr Administrator I'm no longer just looking for two stars beside my name. Some of you have cool pictures beside your profiiles. I want a picture of my greatest sporting idol of all time beside mine - Alan Quinlan the boxer (also played rugby ). Please bandage, I'll buy you pints. The Roy Keane of Munster Rugby - praised be Allah. In God and Quinny we trust...

Love watching it but I'm miles behind you in terms of knowledge. I do reckon that Dunne has had a very easy ride so far though and presume he'll get found out. What do you make of Duddy? Re the picture of Quinlan. I can't see images in work so I'd have no idea if it worked or not but I'll do it for ya this evening on the likelihood that bandage won't know how to do it before then.

Fair play therock love your style! There was no chance of that Bandage infidel ever putting that up for me, he's allergic to anything Munster. I suppose you want me to buy you pints now. No problem atall, Flannerys pub on Catherine St. in Limerick on Sunday night and I'll have Heineken coming out your ears. Unfortunately if you can't make it the deals off. Could give you a free cup of tea in the 51 alright, better for the liver anyway I believe...

Bad sign of a thread when you have to reply to your own post due to lack of interest! I'll try an alternative strategy and ask why no one is apparently interested in talking about boxing (compare this to the 6 page GAA threads)?? Is it because there has been no world class Irish boxer since Wayne McCollagh and before him you go back 20years to the truly great Barry McGuigan? Oh there was that Steve Collins fella but as a purist I wouldn't make his fanclub. Thankfully. Or is the lack of interest due to (the understandable) apathy of the sport by people who view it as a corrupt game like cycling or baseball. Due to old school ties and match-fixing rather than drugs necessarily... Anyone with an opinion as to why boxing does not interest the obviously sports mad members of this site give me a rant! Personally I reckon that part of the reason we wont see a great Irish boxer anytime soon is the same as the reason we have to import props in rugby - Celtic Tiger mummies don't want their little boy getting hurt. Which is guaranteed in both.

Sorry therock67 just realised I never answered your question about Duddy. To be honest I've no idea how good he is because while I love my boxing I don't watch heavyweight. I view it as a corrupt joke run by Don King and the mafia. I'll put it to you this way, if a world championship heavyweight fight was taking place in my back garden I'd close the curtains.

Duddy fights at the same weight as Dunne. He's a lad from Derry but he's been fighting to the US instead of Ireland and he's built up a big following in Boston apparently. There's talk of a matchup between the two.

I was at the first Collins-Eubank fight in Milstreet years ago, it was a great night. Didnt know anything about boxing then, still dont, but it was a cracking event.
Had seats that night right in front of where Eubank came up on his Harley Davidson, for his entrance.
Atmosphere was electric and its a great memory, but as for the boxing, haven't a clue if it was a good fight or not!

Would like to see it again to see what sort of fight it was but it certainly wasn't boring I don't think. Thinking back now on how scabby my father was. We didn't have Sky Sports as kids so he used to drive us to the airport to watch old firm games and major sporting events (like Collins fights or rugby tours down under) and we'd watch them there.

Here's a clip of one hell of a punch. i got it ages ago on a clip, just remembered it when i saw the boxing thread. Kosta Tszyu (who lost to Hatton this year, i think) throws the punch, Judah goes down like a ton of bricks www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o7A3rMN6Co

That's absolutely hilarious. Sitting in the departures lounge with no volume for the games? I remember the thrill when we got Sky first. It was when they won the rights to the EPL in the 1992/93 season. I remember their ad to launch the season - clips of various players from all the teams throwing on their jerseys in the dressing room with Simple Minds' 'Alive and Kicking' as the musical accompaniment. The wrestling was immense back then too. Love watching it locked on a Sunday morning now.
