Just got an email in work sent from some buftie in the London office to all staff inviting us to enter the official fantasy league. First prize is 2 tickets to a league game at Chelsea. I’d rather take my eyeballs out with a rusty fork than go and watch Chelsea play again. Gonna win it anyway though. Have printed the list of all the players and gonna put them through their paces after work to see who’s motivated enough to be in my team.

It is indeed soon to be revealed WoW - just some other web stuff getting in the way at the moment as visitors to the main site might have noticed.
Prizes are still being dreamt up though tickets to a roccerball premier league match might be available if I can get a hold of sticky.

Wordpress is still there at thefreekick.wordpress.com
The old content from wordpress will be moved to the new site and I'm working on a submit form that will allow people to submit articles once they've registered, easier than on wordpress. It's all very fucking difficult however.

Well ye may not be too keen on the forum changes - basically we're moving away from this one. There are many reasons but the most important one is that we don't control this forum, it is hosted by proboards. If it ever fails or gets hacked or anything we can't ever get our old stuff back because nothing is on our database.
So we're getting a new one that might have slightly more features - it will allow attachments for example. It will be hosted on our webspace so we have control over the database. Also it should link to the main site better which will mean we should be writing more on the main site because it will be viewable from the forum (I hope).
The main disadvantage of moving is that we will lose old content. However this board won't be going anywhere, so it will always be here as a backup and as a reference tool we can link to.
The biggest advantage as I've said is we control the data. So if we ever move again or have problems then we can move all the old stuff with us.

I see your point on owning the data, control etc. good idea with the attachments (no bandwidth problems then?). Just an idea here to think about, some websites have a link box to their forums on the side of their main pages, showing the 5 (or so) topics being discussed at the moment on the forum. Shame some great threads (and not so great ones, ahem) will be lost. Do we lose our post counts too, will there be karma, reregistration etc etc bla bla? (or shut up and wait whyohwhy!!)

I'm not 100% sure on all the detail but:
- there will be re-registration. (You can register on the main site at the moment I think) - post counts will probably be lost though I'll look into it - there will still be karma (made sure of it) - I will set up a thread at the start that has links to all the best threads from here on it for ease of referencing back to old stuff
I am endeavouring to setup that box that you talk about on the main page of the site. I think I know how to do it, just need to try it and hope it works. Any other suggestions on the design or content let me know.
Bandwith shouldn't be an issue at the start anyway. The size of the attachments will be limited, as will the type of attachment allowed. These will be limited by me however, not by the software itself, so they can be amended if needs be.

You won't lose karma I don't think because I can set starting levels for karma based on your ending level here. Post counts will probably be lost but I'll see if I can find a way around it.
