Below is from the Celtic site. It may help to make the point that me and Cully eile were trying to make last night. Due to the fact that Celtic don't have the revenue of an equivalent EPL team, primarily due to the massive gulf in TV income, Celtic do not have the transfer funds available that even mediocre enough EPL teams have. As a result they are forced to look at those players who you could say operate below the very top tier but who with time have the potential to develop into serious operators. We've seen that with Petrov and latterly with Zurawski and Boruc who were signed relatively cheaply from eastern Europe. The encouraging thing about Strachan for me is that he seems to have a good eye for a player. He's taken the 2 Poles and Naka this season. Equally you could say that he's signed Telfer (stop gap) and Camara (a signing set up in the O'Neill era by all accounts). Because Celtic do not have the revenue streams as mentioned above (possibly £10m to spend this summer) and need to sign 4 or 5 players they've already taken Miller and Caldwell on Bosmans and possibly the left back below for £1-2m. That would leave £8m for a centre back, midfield player and a striker. Our whole point was that Celtic's support base and tradition is absolutely huge already and if they did get into the EPL I think it's unfair to say 'They're useless - how can you compare Hartson to Henry?' etc etc. Surely it's obvious the additional exposure this would bring in terms of revenue via TV income, merchandising, other sponsorship would put Celtic into a ridiculously strong financial position? From that stand point and given the club's European pedigree and huge fan base it seems obvious to me that they would attract further players of real quality and not hidden gems like Naka and the 2 Poles. Who would go to Celtic Park and dominate? Not many EPL teams I tell you. And even as things stand now Celtic are not the joke figure some EPL followers imagine as Blackburn and Liverpool supporters should be able to tell you:
Sparta Prague defender Michal Kadlec says he would be interested in a move to Old Firm giants Celtic.
The Czech Republic Under-21 international has attracted the interest of the Scottish Premier League champions-elect.
Reports in Czech Republic suggest representatives from the Parkhead outfit watched Kadlec play for Sparta in last Saturday's 2-1 win over city rivals Slavia Prague.
The 21-year-old left back is flattered by the interest of The Bhoys, but admitted he is concentrating on getting Sparta into Europe next season.
"Such an offer would be very hard to refuse," Kadlec told Czech news agency CTK. "Who doesn't want to go to Celtic?
"The Scottish league is a good league. Moreover, games are played in a great atmosphere and Celtic have played regularly in the (UEFA) Champions League.
"However, I want to concentrate on the end of the season at Sparta.
"We want to finish well in the league and in the domestic cup to qualify for next season's Uefa Cup or UEFA Champions League.
"I will not be making any decisions on my future for now."
