The last week or so I've found myself reminiscing quite a lot about mediocre soccer players from the late 80s and early 90s. Lads like Robert Fleck, Jeremy Goss, Rick Holden...you know that kind of vintage.
It makes me feel good to think about them. Their hairstyles were so hickey. Robert Ullathorne and Efan Ekoku are two more that spring to mind. That Norwich City team was full of them.
Perhaps we could get a little list going. I like lists.

Manchester City - Tony Coton, Ian Brightwell, Keith Curle, Terry Phelan, Steve Lomas, Garry Flitcroft, Neil Pointon, Steve Redmond, Mark Ward (now in prison for serious drug offences), Gerry Creaney, Ged Brannan, Adie Mike.
Celtic - Gordon Marshall, Malky McKay, David Hannah, Simon Donnelly, Brian McLaughlin, Paul Byrne, Phil O'Donnell, Wayne Biggins, Carl Muggleton, Gerry Creaney, Stuart Slater, Tony Cascarino, Regi Blinker, John Hughes.
I'll get back to this. Might start an underrated players thread too.

Unfortunately the late 80s early 90s was a golden era for mediocre soccer players with Celtic.
I prefer to think of the likes of Franny Carr, Ruel Fox, John Harkes.

Was playing soccer a few weeks back and one of the lads scored an absolute ringer for the Goss goal. Uefa Cup 1993 I think it was. A great goal I agree. A mediocre player though.

Keep 'em coming. Agree with most of these except Ian Woan who was decent enough. He kept scoring against Liverpool. Paul Rideout scored the winning goal in the 1995 FA Cup final for Everton. I'm sure that you could think of many more for them. What about the Nigerian dude they had years ago? A striker? Played in the 1994 World Cup? I think they bought him for around five million. Smashing call on Nigel Clough (Cully I think) - definition of the word 'mediocre'...
