Has to be Maradona for me. He just kind of went, 'fair enough, I cheated for the first goal but here's what I'm really capable of - now fook off and leave me alone.' Superb footballer.

Well put Bandage. I recall Jimmy Magee's commentary. Maradona had already done that little step-out-of-the-tackle when Jimmy realised that he was on the ball, Jimmy: 'Here's Maradona' (Realises what he did) Jimmy: 'A different class' (By now he had gone by about three - silence until he rounds Shilton and pokes it) Jimmy: 'A different claaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssss' And he was. Jimmy also said that it was irrelevant whether Maradona handled it as 'Shilton was big enough and should have got it'. Well said

That said Pele's goal against Sweden in 1958 when he was 17 was awesome.
Carlos Alberto in 1970 as well
Who could forget Tardelli in 1982 when the eyes literally popped out of his head after he scored

Carlos Alberto in 1970 as well That goal was class. The one Pele almost scored in the semi (where he dummied the keeper) would have been brilliant too.

On the subject of Maradona was anyone watching Soccer Aid when he rolled his penalty about a yard to Jamie Theakston's left but he had completely wrong footed him so it just trickled past him. A different class.

A different class. That was what sealed it for me as well - he'd shown potential before then but that proved his class.

From an Irish perspective Houghton in 1994 was pure magic. Will never forget that one.

From an Irish perspective Houghton in 1994 was pure magic. Will never forget that one. And Sheedy in Italia '90. Still remember Bonner almost outside the box as he gathered the ball in the previous play, and clenching the teeth as he lashed the ball upfield. All the better for being against England of course. As was Maradona's.

Also the commentators line, 'Angus Deayton in hard on Maradona there' made me chuckle somewhat. The veins in Tardelli's arms and temple were nearly popping out as well as his eyes. That really is a superb World Cup moment imo.

Brilliant! Number 1 in 86 and 20 years on he can still produce some magic. Is it true that he played a game with Boca Juniors there recently? What a legend!
Best of all though was how he pissed off the English!
